WAXAHACHIE – The Waxahachie Animal Shelter on Lions Park Road has undergone a facelift.

Instead of boring exterior walls to welcome new pet owners inside, Waxahachie Chief of Police, Wade Goolsby and Animal Services Manager, Cathy Le have graced the exterior with murals of a cat and a dog.

Goolsby and Le painted the murals together, and Le said it took about seven hours to complete.

“The mural is a cat and a dog, and we added a colorful aspect to it to showcase the new vibrant personality of our new shelter staff,” Le explained.

“The Waxahachie Animal Shelter is often overlooked due to the location that it’s in. We’ve increased our interaction with the community by adding more outreaches to our agenda and being more interactive on social media.”

The idea to paint the multicolored murals was the idea of both Goolsby and Le, she said adding, “We wanted to add some art to the shelter to attract more traffic.”

Indeed, it will because if you are driving near 191 Lions Park Road near the Waxahachie Animal Shelter you can’t miss the colorful new addition.

While there are no plans to add more murals in the future, the idea is not ruled out either. Le said they might consider adding more when the time is right.

Currently the Waxahachie Animal Shelter is home to 15 dog kennels and eight cat kennels.

“We’re working our best to turn our image around and become more interactive with the community,” Le concluded. “Our goal for the shelter is to work on getting these furry friends a forever home.”

The Animal Shelter is open from Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and you can find all the shelter’s adoptable pets posted on the PetFinder profile.
