MIDLOTHIAN – Quarterback Ryder Lambert threw for 278 yard and five touchdowns on 19 completions and added a rushing touchdown to lead defending state champion Stephenville over Midlothian Heritage.
Stephenville started where it left off from last season with five first-half touchdowns and 350 yards of offense in the first half. Wide receiver Payton Post scored on a 32-yard Hail Mary with no time left at the half to make it 35-14. Post ended the game with seven receptions for 119-yards and four touchdowns.
After a scoreless third quarter for both teams, Midlothian Heritage quarterback Kaden Brown threw two fourth-quarter touchdowns, with one being a 21-yard score and the other being a 45-yard score. Both passes went to Xavier Moten.
After another Stephenville touchdown, T.J. Pride ran the kickoff back 89 yards to cut the deficit to two scores with 1:14 to go. After a successful onside kick, Heritage scored with no time left on an 8-yard pass to running back Jason Barela.
Brown completed 15 passes for 233 yards and four touchdowns.
