ELLIS COUNTY – The Ellis County Commissioner’s Court approved a burn ban this past week, which will be in effect for 90 days beginning June 28.
The burn ban includes all of Ellis County as well as unincorporated areas of the county.
As a reminder, the order does not apply to domestic waste as detailed on the order.
However, the domestic applicable items must be burned in compliance with the requirements created for a controlled environment with necessary safeguards adhered to including material being enclosed in a single receptacle able to contain all flames and sparks. The burn must begin no earlier than one hour after sunset ending the same day and no later than one hour before sunrise.
A responsible person must be in attendance during the burn and the area near the burn must be clear of vegetation, combustible materials, and debris. Adequate fire suppression equipment such as a fire extinguisher or water hose attached to a constant water supply must also be constantly available during the burn.
The order also read no domestic burning is allowed on days designated as Red Flag Warning Days by the National Weather Service.
Outdoor cooking is also allowed with restrictions as noted in the order regarding the use of propane, natural gas, wood, or charcoal, which must be in a complete enclosure at all times.
The area must also be clear of vegetation, combustible materials and debris, and adequate fire equipment must always be available including a fire extinguisher or water hose with the constant availability of water.
