RED OAK – A major accident in Red Oak last week left two people dead.
Red Oak Police were dispatched to the intersection of North U.S. Highway 77 and Free Market Drive at around 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, responding to a two-vehicle collision.
Both the Red Oak Police and Red Oak Fire Rescue were called to the scene.
According to a Red Oak PD press release, a gray 2019 Dodge van was traveling westbound on Free Market Drive and entered the intersection of Free Market Drive and U.S. Highway 77 without yielding.
The van was immediately broad-sided on the driver’s side by a silver 2020 Honda Civic traveling north on U.S. Highway 77. Witnesses said the Civic had no time to stop.
The Civic’s driver, 17-year-old Mia Thomas of Ovilla, sustained life-ending injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene at roughly 2 p.m.
The driver of van, 66-year-old Lyne Knight of Waxahachie, was transported by AMR ambulance to Baylor Hospital in Waxahachie for serious injuries, where she later died.
A child passenger in the van was transported by AMR ambulance to Children’s Hospital in Dallas for non-life-threatening injuries.
The accident remains under investigation by the Red Oak Police Department.
