RED OAK – A time capsule will be raised near the flagpole in Red Oak City Park this Thursday at 7 p.m.

The capsule was scheduled to be unearthed in 2020, but with the pandemic beginning that same year, the capsule was one of those meetings you could not accomplish with a zoom call.

The time capsule was buried in 2000 by members of the Cub Scout Den No. 8, of Pack 288.

Four of the members of the den and Den Leader Tim Lawhead will be on hand this week to raise the capsule.

A clipping retrieved from a 22-year-old Ellis County Press newspaper showed a picture of the burial of the capsule. Remarks stated the time capsule project was sponsored by several area businesses donating materials for the construction of the capsule and vault.

During the dedication speech in 2000, Lawhead told those in attendance the four scouts who helped bury the capsule planned to return to the site at Red Oak City Park “in 20-years to open the capsule and reflect on their years in Cub Scouts.”
