WILMER – Former Wilmer city councilmember Sergio Campos was on hand this evening at a special city council meeting to swear in 2 new councilmembers elected at the City Council and Independent School Board Trustee elections earlier this month.

Campos received an appreciation plaque for his years of serving on the Wilmer City Council from 2014 to 2022.

Former councilmember Melissa Ramirez also received a plaque but was not in attendance at Monday night’s meeting. Ramirez sat on the council from 2016 to 2022.

Wilmer Mayor Sheila Petta was sworn into her mayoral seat for another two years at the council meeting, as were new council members Pamela Wash and Laura Jacobs.

“For the next two years I am in office I will be working very hard to get a grocery store,” Petta said of her upcoming term.

“This is what my citizens want, this is what I want to get for them.

“I am working on retail, and we do have retail coming.

“We have a lot of new businesses coming – I can’t talk about it – but I can tell you we have a lot going on here.

“I have a gentleman who wants to come and build some more homes so we are growing, it is going to take us awhile, if everyone will just be patient.

“And for my citizens, I want to thank you all. I am proud of my city, and I let everyone know it.”
