MIDLOTHIAN – There were seven teams from Midlothian ISD that competed in the recent Lone Star Finals Destination Imagination state tournament at the end of March.
The competition was held March 26 at the University of Texas Arlington and Globe Life Field.
Overall, there were 350 student teams from the 17 DI regions in Texas. Each team had the chance to present its creative solutions for a number of STEAM-based (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) challenges.
Students had the chance to choose one of seven different open-ended DI challenges. They then worked together in teams to plan, create and present their solutions to the appraisers.
Six out of seven teams from Midlothian ISD advanced to the Global competition, which will be held May 20 – 24 in Kansas City, Missouri.
Two of the teams, Chewbaccadoodles-Fine Arts and the Ramen Noodle Robbers-Improv, were awarded 1st Place.
The Dysfunctional Donuts-Technical Challenge, took 2nd Place, while the Dabbing Donuts-Service Learning, took home 3rd Place, the Rollerblading Wizards-Technical, took a 4th Place spot, and Teenagers in Tiaras-Improv Challenge, took 5th Place.
The Drama Llamas were also recognized. The team did not advance, but had a great showing at the competition too.
“Destination Imagination is an international, project-based educational program that encourages innovation, teamwork and creative problem-solving,” indicated a press release from Midlothian ISD.
