WILMER – From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 23, the Wilmer City Hall Square will be home to the city’s Earth Day Celebration with a reminder to keep our planet clean by doing your share.
The celebration, appropriately called W-O-W, stands for Wipe Out Waste.
“Spring cleaning is upon us, and we are happy to offer three opportunities for the celebration of Earth Day,” said Wilmer Mayer Sheila Petta.
For the Earth Day event, Wilmer residents can take part in a tree giveaway (while supplies last), a Wipe-Out-Waste event, and a litter pick-up program in designated areas.
The Wipe-Out-Waste portion allows for Wilmer residents to bring brush and bulk to dispose of properly. As a reminder, the city will not be able to accept hazardous waste or tires.
Going on the second year for the annual W-O-W event in Wilmer, volunteers will be helping for the day, and the city has also received a commitment from Medline and Praise Fellowship Church to help too.
The items dropped off by residents will be taken to the Sky Landfill (Waste Management).
“City council and staff are committed to provide our residents with services to help sustain our environment,” Petta concluded. “With all of us acting together, we can ensure that we maintain a beautiful and safe community. We hope you can join us in keeping Wilmer beautiful and investing in our planet.”
