ELLIS COUNTY – Ellis County Sheriff Brad Norman recently had the opportunity to present one of his relatively new deputies – hired in the summer of 2021 - with a life saving award.
Deputy Demond Davis was presented the award at Commissioner Court where the story of his saving a man who had overdosed on Ecstasy and Oxycodone at the Law Enforcement Center near Waxahachie was revealed.
Davis had responded to the overdose call, and while the ambulance was enroute the man was nearly unconscious.
His labored breathing and unresponsiveness worsened during the wait for the ambulance, so Davis took matters into his own hands.
He saved the man’s life by administering two doses of Narcan Nasal Spray, which helped the man’s condition improve. The ER doctor said the man was alive because of Davis’ quick action.
“Lifesaving awards do not happen very often,” said Ellis County Sheriff Brad Norman. “I have given two in the year-and-three-months I have been sheriff.”
