OVILLA – The city of Ovilla will have two clean-up days next month in April.
Saturday, April 23 will be the clean-up day for brush and trash from 8 a.m. to noon in downtown Ovilla.
Saturday, April 30 will be the day residents can deliver their household hazardous waste materials, again from 8 a.m. to noon in downtown Ovilla.
Ovilla has been offering clean-up days for many years.
Ovilla City Manager Pam Woodall said, “They have occurred since I have been here to my knowledge.”
Every year Ovilla residents use the annual clean-up service to spring clean.
Woodall said the household hazardous waste includes electronics recycling, paper shredding, tires with no rims and even scrap metal and appliances.
Ovilla Public Works Department works in conjunction with Community Waste Disposal on these two days to make the annual clean-up day a success.
“CWD is responsible for delivery to a Texas Class 1 landfill – selected by the contractor CWD – for trash/brush,” Woodall explained.
“The disposal of hazardous materials is under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act through TCEQ permitting.”
Residents are required to show a form of ID for proof of residency. Everything generated must be from residential use, not an auto shop, or tree service.
Last year, even with COVID-19 the annual clean-up was a success.
The bulk and hazardous waste pickups resulted in 9,293 pounds of household hazardous waste, 576 pounds of shredded paper, 1,590 pounds of electronics, 540 pounds of scrap metal, 200 pounds of tires, and 65,580 pounds of trash.
