WILMER – The Wilmer city council passed a resolution last week to jump start the creation of a community vision plan to develop the Wilmer Comprehensive Plan 2040.
Staff pointed out the planning effort will be a multi-phased approach.
Council discussed a plan not to exceed $295,500 for Halff Associates Inc. to provide planning services for the vision plan. The study will also include a corridor study to help create a detailed Town Center & Belt Line Road Corridor Study for the city.
Staff noted, “These planning efforts will provide guidance for the physical development, redevelopment, and future direction of growth and governance within Wilmer’s planning area.”
They acknowledged the planning process, and the resulting policies will be critical to the city’s ability to promote and manage growth, to protect and enhance key areas of importance while accommodating future trends.
The plan will also take a look at what makes the city of Wilmer unique, with an eye toward a vision of what Wilmer wants to become in the future. And, how to achieve that goal through plan implementation.
The city’s current comprehensive plan was adopted in 2008.
The deliverable in the first of the three phases if approved is the city of Wilmer Vision Plan containing community wide strategic objectives.
The second phase will be an approach to focus on developing a full-scale update to the Comprehensive Plan and phase three will be the Town Center and Belt Line Road Corridor Study to identify needs and opportunities.
