ELLIS COUNTY – If you have never been a fan of taking a trip to the county tax office, here is a reason you might look more forward to it in the future.
Both the Waxahachie and Red Oak tax offices will be moving into new digs within the next few years.
A more streamlined process, for sure. But as well, a more modern appeal.
Richard Rozier, Ellis County Tax Assessor/Collector said in regard to the relocation of the Waxahachie tax office, “The county has purchased the educational building at the old First Baptist Church of Waxahachie.
“It is a three-story, 30,000 square-foot building. They plan to move several county offices into that building, one of which will be the main tax office.”
The tax office will occupy the first floor.
Currently an architect has been hired, and the design is in the beginning stage of planning.
From there the project is expected to take from 18 to 24 months to be complete, according to Rozier.
In Red Oak, the tax office in that city is getting a new home too.
The current office is located on Live Oak Street.
Alexa Beasley, City of Red Oak Director of Communications & Marketing said, “With the scheduled remodel of the Live Oak area and the new city hall, we felt it was important to continue our partnership with the county by offering them space within the new building for the tax office.”
Red Oak City Council approved the renovation and construction of the new city hall at the February 2022 council meeting.
Beasley said the county is paying for the renovation of their space; exact costs are still being determined and, Beasley said are “not available at this time.”
Rozier added there are no plans to hire additional staff once the move is made, “But we will have more space for customers and staff to accommodate the growth we are seeing,” he concluded.
