WILMER – The city of Wilmer held a Town Hall meeting last Thursday to discuss with residents the proposed design of the city’s new municipal complex.

An architect, Nick Palluth and designer, Andre Maxwell from GSBS Architects were on hand to present the proposed design to a roomful of Wilmer residents, city council and city staff.

Palluth told those in attendance that GSBS spent a lot of time with staff, council and Wilmer’s police chief to “figure out what was the best strategy to take on this project.”

Palluth said main goals included creating a “welcoming source of pride, belonging and safety for the community of Wilmer.”

Palluth and Maxwell stated they wanted to make the new complex approachable, inclusive and accessible while also setting a standard for future development and growth of Wilmer.

They wanted a design that will instill pride of ownership, establish the identity of Wilmer and bring the community of Wilmer together. And were looking at a design that would allow for future opportunities in regard to adding to the complex.

If approved, the complex will include not only city hall, but also public works, police department and jail, a community center, library, and a small park with gazebo.

The money for the city’s new municipal complex will come from a Certificate of Obligation bond based on the city’s depth capacity.

GSBS Architects will determine a cost for the project after the design has been decided.
