WILMER – City of Wilmer Mayor Sheila Petta was recognized last week at a TMLI Awards Ceremony at the Texas Municipal League and Texas Association of Mayors, Councilmembers and Commissioners’ Elected Officials’ Conference in Sugar Land.

Petta received recognition for her commitment to continuing education.

She was honored with the Texas Municipal League Institute Certified Municipal Official designation. Wilmer Councilmember Wally Leto also received recognition for his commitment to continuing education.

He was awarded the Texas Municipal League Institute Certificate of Recognition.

“I am excited and honored to receive this prestigious award.

“Being the first elected official in the city of Wilmer to have ever received this prestigious designation was a special and historical day,” Petta said.

“The professional development opportunities have helped me tremendously in my governance role to better serve our community.”

The Texas Municipal League Institute recognizes elected city officials for time spent on enhancing their knowledge of city government and sharpening their leadership skills via a variety of educational opportunities.

Acknowledgement for completing continuing education units within a calendar year begins with a certificate of recognition (42 or more CEUs) and increases to the prestigious Certified Municipal Official (CMO) designation (62 or more CEUs).

More than 150 elected officials from all over the state attended the three-day conference.

The Texas Municipal League is a voluntary association of 1,168 Texas cities, of which the city of Wilmer is a member.
