OVILLA – The City of Ovilla will be rehabilitating almost two miles of asphalt pavement on a variety of roads in the city’s Ellis County Precinct 4 district for the 2021/2022 fiscal year.

At the December Ovilla city council meeting, council approved an updated CIP and budgeted amount of up to $490,742 for street rehabilitation.

According to Ovilla Mayor Richard Dormier, Shiloh Road will be the largest project – a little over a mile in length.

The amount of that work is $277.844.

Other streets to be rebuilt include Elmwood Phase I for $18,710, Elmwood Phase II at $56,130, Northwood for $26,194, Oakwood at $58,937, and Willow Creek Court at $23,200.

The repaving process will include county personnel mixing the existing pavement, adding a cement slurry, remixing the pavement, compacting and cutting the subgrade to final grade.

Dormier said an oil prime coat will also be added prior to a contractor being hired for the repaving of the streets with two-inches of compacted hot mix asphalt.

“We are waiting to hear back from the county on when we are on their schedule this year,” Dormier said. “We have successfully utilized this process in the past, saving the citizens of Ovilla many dollars by taking advantage of the services available from Ellis County.

“By using county forces, and contractors hired by the county, the city is able to take advantage of pricing seen on larger projects.”

Dormier said, “The budget for this years’ paving improvements including costs paid to the county and their contractor is $461,015.”

Once a schedule is for the upcoming street work is confirmed the information will be added to the city’s website to make the public aware of the time frame.
