MIDLOTHIAN – A double murder-suicide in Midlothian last week left more questions than answers when 43-year-old Edsel Collazo apparently killed one man and one woman in an apartment in the 2900 block of Lakeside Drive.
Midlothian police said Collazo had just moved to Midlothian from Red Oak, and not much is known about the man.
Police were called to the Lakeside Villas Apartment Community after receiving multiple 911 calls on Jan. 6 at around 10:46 p.m.
The call reports were of a disturbance and possible gunshots believed to be coming from one of the apartments.
When police arrived they found not only Collazo, who was unresponsive from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, but also Janet Evelyn Lee, 49, of Midlothian, and Andrew Armonta, 23, of Midlothian both unresponsive.
Police did not readily say how Lee and Armonta died.
“All three individuals were deceased, one from a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” Midlothian Police reported.
The scene was secured and evidentiary warrants drafted to complete the processing of the crime scene.
“There is no additional information for release at this time,” said Midlothian Assistant Police Chief Scott Brown. “This investigation remains open, but as stated in our earlier statement, there is no apparent threat to our community.”
Red Oak police did not respond to emails by press time regarding Collazo and if the man had prior disturbances or activity while living in that city.
Police in Midlothian said victim’s assistance staff with the Midlothian Police Department are also providing support to family members.
