RED OAK – Senior living community Arabella of Red Oak, 200 Washington St., is blessed to be the home of 96-year-old Ms. Lucy Barboza, lover of singing and dancing.
Naturally, she keeps the good vibes going at the events and parties. Employees at the community say she is full of love and wisdom.
She was born Aug. 3, 1925 in Newport, Rhode Island.
Lucy worked in a factory during World War II, then went on to work at an electric company. She got tired of factories, so she went to work on a dairy farm.
Lucy was also married to Arthur Barboza from 1943 until his passing in 2001.
In her free time, she boarded horses on her 10 acres and took care of her cows, chickens, and her own horses.
Her son said she was always a hard worker. In fact, Lucy was climbing ladders in her early 80’s. She always found something to do.
Now, Lucy resides at Arabella of Red Oak, where she has been since August 2020. She has two sons, Steven and Alfred, three grandkids, and 11 great-grandkids.
Her favorite hobbies are dancing, singing, watching movies, bowling, and playing games. When asked her secret to longevity, Lucy said, “Laughing and singing! It’s what keeps me young and alive.”
