The city of Waxahachie rolled out its Christmas season earlier this week with a Christmas parade and community tree lighting event in downtown Waxahachie.

Missed out? There’s plenty more holiday events to go around.

At 6 p.m. Thursday, Ovilla will host its annual Christmas tree lighting event at Heritage Park.

There will be music by Caleb Vanderburg of Vertical Church and Ovilla Christian School students will be perform a sing-along.

Mayor Pro Tem Doug Hunt will be lighting the Christmas tree and the Ovilla Service League ladies will provide hot chocolate and cookies. There will also be a visit from Santa and the Ovilla Police Department will be taking new toys for its annual Christmas toy drive.

Other cities events follow this weekend with Wilmer holding its annual Christmas tree lighting event at 7 p.m. Friday on the square.

Those in attendance will be able to take photos with Santa while enjoying a hot chocolate bar and holiday cookies.

The city of Ferris’ event will take place at 6:30 p.m. Saturday downtown.

There will be a visit from Santa and a bounce house for children to play in. At 7 p.m. fireworks are scheduled.

The city of Red Oak will host its annual Christmas event at Watkins Park, 101 Live Oak.

The family-friendly event is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

At 11 a.m., the Winter Wonderland Parade is slated to begin.

The parade will feature holiday floats, decorated vehicles and ATV’s, public safety vehicles, school district marching bands, drill teams and cheerleaders.

A collection of area businesses and organizations will be offering free children’s crafts, edible treats and games and Santa will be available for free photos at the Watkins Park Gazebo following the parade.

From 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Midlothian’s Southern Star Christmas Celebration will feature craft and food vendors in the city’s downtown Heritage Park.

The Christmas event will culminate at 6 p.m. with the annual light-up parade.

The city of Ennis will have a North Pole express mail drop box this year at the Ennis Public Library, 501 W. Ennis Ave.

Children are encouraged to write letters to Santa and let him know what they want under the tree this year. what they want under the tree this year.

The library will also be offering Christmas stationary to write letters to Santa before dropping into the box headed for the North Pole.
