Ellis County – Election season is underway in Ellis County. The filing deadline for potential candidates to apply for a spot on the ballot for the March 2022 Democratic and Republican Party primaries is 6 p.m. Dec.13.

Seats up for grab include commissioners and justice of the peace, as well as statewide races such as governor and attorney general.

Those interested in a spot on the republican ballot can reach out to either the Ellis County Republican Party by phone at 972-923-9383 or email at info@elliscountygop.org.Those interested in a spot on the Democratic ballot can get in touch with the Ellis County Democratic Party by calling 972-546-7618. The party website did not list an email address for its headquarters.

County election officials said Tuesday anyone interested in filing as an independent have the same 6 p.m. Dec.13 deadline.

If one is looking to run locally, applications must be turned into County Judge Todd Little’s office. His email is countyjudge@co.ellis.tx.us. Office phone is 972-825-5011.

Anyone with intent to run as an independent for a statewide race needs to file with Texas Secretary of State John Scott’s office, officials said.

Early voting for the primaries is Feb. 14-20 and 22-25.

Election Day is Tuesday, March 1.
