RED OAK – Colleyville Heritage (3-0, 5-1) quarterback Weston Smith threw for 240 yards and two scores to outlast Red Oak 48-21 in a District 4-5A matchup at Billy Goodloe Stadium.
The Hawks (1-3, 1-5) came out hot, forcing a three and out on the first drive. The Panthers, not to be outdone, picked off a pass to set up its first score of the night. Red Oak would follow up with a touchdown drive of its own to tie the game 7-7.
After halftime, Red Oak’s quarterback Jaylon Robinson found wide receiver Jace Wyatt from 55 yards out to inch closer, 17-14. On the ensuing kickoff, Panther running back Leon Covington scooped up a bouncing kick and took it 80 yards to the house to put Colleyville in the lead for good.
Heritage’s wide receiver Hogan Wasson proved to be the difference, getting open all night, finishing with 111 yards and a score. And the Panther defense proved stout, ending the contest with four turnovers.
Red Oak’s Robinson tallied 381 yards of total offense and two scores.
Red Oak takes on Midlothian (3-3, 2-1) at home at Billy Goodloe Stadium Friday, Oct. 15. Kick off is at 7 p.m.
