Ellis County Commissioners’ Court issued a proclamation last week recognizing Prayer Week.

The week ended with a ceremony held at the Waxahachie Lumpkins Stadium this past Sunday.

“This is a realization of our court that our community has lost loved ones, our community has had dissension, our community needs healing, and that we need to humble ourselves together,” said Ellis County Judge Todd Little during a recent court meeting.

“When we do that, God says in His word that He will come and heal our land.”

Ellis County Commissioners Court recognized the Week of Prayer in Ellis County while presenting the proclamation to a group called Christians Rise Up in Prayer.

Little said groups like these are essential to guide the community through moments of loss and hardship.

A Christians Rise Up in Prayer spokesperson said the group was only recently organized earlier this year as a partnership between all main churches in Ellis County as well as Southwestern Assemblies of God University.

The goal is to have a Week of Prayer recognized every year in Ellis County moving forward.

Little and the Commissioners saw the need as important to engage with citizens during trying times and pointed out the Court is always open to recognize holidays and occasions that are important to local organizations and members of the community.

“As a government entity, the Commissioners’ Court invites any and all religions to visit the Commissioners’ Court to have their observances recognized,” a spokesperson at Little’s office concluded.

“There are currently no plans for other observances to be recognized.
