WILMER – Wilmer leaders including Mayor Sheila Petta, Mayor Pro Tem Candy Madrigal and staff spent every Friday in the month of August attending the Best Southwest 2021 T.G.I.F. Legislative Breakfast Series.
The event kicked off with State Representative Carl Sherman speaking via zoom from Washington DC discussing the passage of “Bo’s Law”, one of only two police reform bills passed in Austin during the 87th Legislative Session.
He also discussed his reasons for currently being in Washington DC.
“My ancestors had to make this journey to DC over 50 years ago for voter’s rights, and we need Congress to act now and especially for states that are in the South.
“We really need help on voter’s rights to ensure every Texan can vote,” Sherman said while addressing the audience.
The Best Southwest 2021 T.G.I.F. Legislative Breakfast Series rotated cities this year, with the final event held recently at the DeSoto Civic Center.
