ELLIS COUNTY – The special election Tuesday for District 10 resulted in Midlothian resident Brian Harrison and Waxahachie resident John Wray with the most votes for an upcoming runoff special election.
Republicans Harrison and Wray will face off in the runoff while the other three Republicans, one Democrat, one Libertarian and one Independent are out.
In unofficial results Harrison received the most votes with 4,360 votes or 40.50% and Wray came in with 3,856 votes or 35.82%.
Republican Kevin Griffin had 851 votes or 7.90%, Clark Wickliffe 342 votes or 3.18% and Susan Hayslip, who had dropped out asking her supporters to throw their votes to Harrison came in with 32 votes or 0.30%.
Libertarian Matt Savino received 26 votes or 0.24%, Democrat Pierina Otiniano had 1,198 votes or 11.13% and Independent Scott Goodwin finished with 101 votes or 0.94%.
Harrison had said before the election he believe he was the most qualified for the District 10 seat because “I am the only candidate running who has delivered results for the America First Agenda including stopping socialist policies, locking down our border to stop illegal immigrants and COVID-19, protecting our unborn and defunding Planned Parenthood across the nation, empowering people to break free from Obamacare, preventing new taxes from being enacted and harming small businesses, stripping power from bureaucrats, slashing burdensome regulations, and forcing the swamp to live with Texas common sense.”
Wray believed he should take home the seat because of his qualifications, which he said included his experience and established relationships with state leaders.
“I previously served three full terms as State Representative from January 2015 until January 2021. Due to my prior service, I am very familiar with the legislative process, the procedural rules of the Texas House, and the key players in passing conservative Republican legislation. The Legislature is currently meeting in Special Sessions, including an all-important Special Session anticipated in November on the topic of Re-Districting. I do not need any orientation or on-the-job training.”
