ELLIS COUNTY – Newly elected State Rep. Jake Ellzey will be heading to Washington DC after winning the 6th Congressional race in a special election against Susan Wright last week.
The 6th Congressional District includes parts of the counties of Ellis, Navarro, and Tarrant.
The seat came open when Wright’s husband, Ron Wright died earlier this year after contracting COVID-19.
Wright was endorsed by former President Trump, but that endorsement some say was not as much of a help as a hurt in the election.
Final results showed Ellzey with 53-perceny of the vote and Wright, a longtime GOP activist with 47-percent of the vote in unofficial results.
With Ellzey’s win, Texas Governor Greg Abbott will call a special election to fill the Texas House District 10 seat.
Ryan Pitts, who ran against Ellzey in the 2020 GOP primary for the House District 10 seat, has suggested he might run as has John Wray.
On Wray’s Facebook last week he wrote, “I have given this idea thoughtful and prayerful consideration, and I have sought the advice and council of my family.”
Both men said they would make announcements of their intentions in the days ahead.
