RED OAK – The Red Oak ISD board unanimously approved the 2021-2022 budget of $11.5 million Monday evening.
Melissa Sulak, director of assessment and accountability presented the board with information on the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief, a federal grant providing academic, social, and emotional support.
The board was unsure how much financial support is going to be needed for the next three years but estimated it at around $744,000.
Care Solace will get $195.000, an additional counselor at ROHS will get $240,000 over three years, totaling $435,000, leaving $339,000 in reserved funds.
The instructional support budget covers Services Bilingual Interventionist, Bilingual Instructional Coaches, Secondary Reading & Math Interventionists, and more are getting an estimated $2 million.
Some instructional support services including Saxon Phonics and the AVID Program are earmarked an estimated $812,000.
Technology funding is around $498,000 and for Firewall and devices updates, replacements, Zoom licensing, etc.
Superintendent Brenda Sanford report updated ROISD Projects:
• The fence at Support Services was completed.
• New A/C units and LED light fixtures installed at Schupman Elementary.
• The Agricultural Project Center, located off Bells Chapel Road, is almost completed.
• ROISD also received a Lonestar FFA degree at the silver chapter level with a golden horizon award.
• The 12-old backstop netting at ROHS baseball and softball fields have been replaced. Also, PAC audio and visual systems were also upgraded.
“A survey results have been posted to the ROISD website,” said Kevin Freels, assistant superintendent of district operations.
It was noted there was a decrease in insurance cost through Texas Political Subdivision, saving the district approximately $40,000.
The board also passed a motion to extend the Mentor Care Contract for next year.
This program has been a “huge success in that 96.3-percent of their at-risk students graduate,” according to the board.
Dr. Joy Shaw on the school board will officially resign from the school board next meeting after serving ROISD for more than 40 years.
The next school board meeting will be held July 26 at 7 p.m.
