ELLIS COUNTY – Will it ever be over?
Traffic that is, and the answer is no – not yet.
While work on I-35 never ends, late last week U.S. Highway 77 became the latest roadway detour to avoid.
The detour on U.S. 77 will last until spring 2022.
The Texas Department of Transportation implemented the detour on U.S. Highway 77 starting at 7 p.m. on May 27 with both the north and southbound traffic on U.S. 77 to be diverted to Monroe Street. One northbound lane on U.S. 77 between Madison and Monroe Streets (Elm Street in downtown Waxahachie) will remain open while the southbound lane is reconstructed.
Also between May 27 and Spring 2022, several side streets will also be closed, one at a time, with detours – including W. Madison St., W. Jefferson St., W. Franklin St., and Water St..
TxDOT said signs will be posted to direct drivers on the detour, and also asks drivers to remain vigilant in the work zones.
When it’s over, the construction will reveal a new bridge approaching U.S. 77.
More information about this road closure and others can be accessed at www.DriveTexas.org.
