WILMER – The City of Wilmer is inviting all residents to spring clean this Saturday, May 22 by taking part in the city’s WOW (Wipe Out Waste) event.

The event is part of the city’s strong commitment to provide beautification opportunities to help sustain the Wilmer community and maintain a clean, vibrant, and beautiful city.

“Spring cleaning is upon us, and the City of Wilmer is happy to offer our Wipe-Out-Waste event,” said Wilmer Mayor Sheila Petta.

The drive-thru drop off event will be held at City Hall Square from 8 a.m. to noon, and Wilmer residents with proof of residency may bring bulk items such as mattresses, furniture and appliances, as well as brush to the drop off location.

Based on city records, 2018 was the last time the city held a waste event for residents.

After the waste is collected, the city’s service provider – Waste Management – will deliver the waste collected to a duly permitted disposal site in compliance with rules and regulations of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

In conjunction with the city’s collection service company, the event is an effort to allow additional enhancement opportunities for Wilmer residents and to strengthen property values in the city.

“If you have any old furniture, mattresses, brush or plain waste that needs to be properly disposed of, please come to the Drive-Thru Drop-Off event at City Hall Square,” Petta added.

“City council and staff are committed to provide our residence with services to help sustain our environment. With all of us acting together, we can ensure that we maintain a beautiful community for years to come. We hope you can join us in keeping Wilmer beautiful.”

Residents can come whether it’s rain or shine to drop off their items, but staff will be keeping a close eye on any weather conditions to assure safety for all.

And for those with items such as tires, hazardous waste and electronics, look for a future event that will help dispose of those items properly too.
