RED OAK – The City of Red Oak officially held its Grand Opening of the new Baseball and Softball Complex on Saturday, March 20. The complex is located at the end of Live Oak street and behind what used to be the Red Oak Junior High just past Watkins Park.

The City of Red Oak, with a partnership with Red Oak ISD, took the land over and began making updates. First to the youth football/soccer field, where the field was leveled, new grass installed, irrigation and drainage installed.

The Baseball/Softball complex was started around the same time, but with 6 new turf fields and lighting, it too is nearly complete.

Red Oak Mayor Mark Stanfill, DVM, welcomed everyone in attendance and thanked all those who made the project possible.

City Councilman Ben Goodwyn, who also sits on the Red Oak Industrial Development Corporation, explained how the city has worked to make the complex possible.

Parks and Recreation Commission member Ginny Lindsey also gave a brief speech and reminded those in attendance how far the fields have come over the past 30+ years and what a great future the complex brings to the youth of Red Oak.

Mayor Stanfill also stated there will be Adult activities in the future, such as adult kick ball leagues.

After the speeches were completed, the dignitaries moved out to one of the new fields for a ribbon cutting and first pitch. Once completed, a couple of the Red Oak baseball teams held a short scrimmage on one of the new fields.

Sportscape, the contractor hired to build the complex, still has work to complete, mainly the new concession and restroom building, but work is progressing nicely even with some winter weather slowdowns.
