ITALY – According to Italy Police Chief Gregory McAuley, the Italy Police Department was only taking precautionary measures when they locked the ISD down this past Friday morning.
The Italy Police Department was made aware of a possible threat toward an individual who had a child in the Elementary School.
A Facebook post by the Italy Police Department indicated the threat was investigated and determined to be a hoax.
McAuley said the hoax was related to the internet and could be a possible hoax that is more widespread than just the Italy resident.
The department was unable to locate the origin of the threat.
“In our best effort to protect the children and staff of the school district, we locked the schools down and placed extra officers at all schools until it was determined that the threat was not viable,” Chief McAuley said.
He also thanked Ellis County Sheriff Brad Norman and his staff for the fast response assisting in the investigation, and the Texas Department of Public Safety who rushed manpower to the schools to make sure the schools were secure.
