WILMER – The City of Wilmer had its grand opening Jan. 4 showcasing the city’s new Fire Station No. 1.

Long anticipated, Wilmer mayor Sheila Petta, city council members and fire fighters were in attendance for the ribbon cutting and virtual tour of the new station.

Wilmer Fire Chief Mark Hamilton spearheaded the virtual tour after Petta welcomed those who were there to celebrate the big day.

“I would like at this time to thank our city council for all the work they did and for all the others who helped to get this done,” Petta said.

The station the fire fighters were previously housed in was 60-years-old.

“We are excited to share the City of Wilmer’s Virtual Grand Opening of Fire Station No. 1,” Hamilton said. “I am excited to announce the grand opening of the Wilmer fire department’s new station. The station includes a state-of-the-art emergency operation center as well as comfortable quarters for the firefighters/paramedics on duty. I would like to take this opportunity to thank past and present council members. Most of all I would like to thank the citizens of Wilmer for making this happen. I have been blessed to serve the citizens of Wilmer for over 15 years. The firefighters and myself are excited to lead the way in this new venture as the city of Wilmer continues to grow and enhance its facilities.”
