AUSTIN – Texas Rep. Carl Sherman, whose district includes DeSoto, said Friday that he tested positive for COVID-19, the Texas Tribune reports.
Sherman didn’t disclose how he thought he contracted coronavirus.
“Today, I received a positive test result for COVID-19, and though I feel fine, I am adhering to the professional doctors’ guidance and will be under strict self-quarantine,” Sherman said in a statement.
“It is my prayer that no one other than myself contracted it.”
The Texas Legislature earlier this month called state representatives and senators to Austin.
Rep. Joe Deshotel said he tested positive for COVID-19 days after the House of Representatives convened to adopt rules and elect the speaker.
Representatives are not required to get tested for the virus before entering the House chamber or committee meetings like state senators are. House representatives are required to wear masks to the chamber and committee hearings.
