FERRIS – The billboard at 6th and N. Central Street in Ferris has finally been taken down.
The owner of the sign, Primary Media, decided they wanted to put another billboard on the Interstate 45 frontage road.
However, according to a Special Use Permit the company had been granted back in 2015 by the Ferris City Council, if a second sign was put up – then the first one must come down.
That was 18 months ago.
Ferris City Manager Brooks Williams said, “The owner was hopeful to be able to receive a new SUP granting them the ability to keep both billboards.
“The Ferris City Council did not want to grant the SUP and was adamant the billboard needed to be removed.”
Approximately 10-days ago, the Code Enforcement Department sent a Notice of Violation to the owner, Primary Media, informing them the billboard was in violation and would be deconstructed in 10-days. This would have been at the expense of Primary Media – and with administrative penalties – unless Primary Media removed the billboard prior to that time.
The billboard was removed one day prior to the 10-day period expiring.
“We are happy Primary Media is a part of the Ferris community and that their billboard on I-45 is doing well,” Williams concluded.
“The removal of the N. Central Street billboard is simply the proper ending to the SUP being honored.
“I know that it has been a long process, but we are glad to see that it has ended as it should have.”
