FERRIS – In the next two weeks, road work on portions of nine streets in Ferris will begin. The repairing and rehabbing of Ash Street, Weatherford Street, Oak Street, Maple Street, Ennis Scott Street, AD Mosley Street, W. First Street, Pecan Street and First Street will mean improvement of the city’s roadway infrastructure which has been needed for some time.

The Ferris City Council recently approved an additional $175,000 in addition to the $300,000 already spent for the repair and rehabilitation of the city’s roads.

“Property tax collection accounts for approximately $1,000,000 of the City of Ferris general fund,” said Ferris City Manager Brooks Williams.

“This year, we will spend close to $550,000 in street repairs and improvements. That is 55-percent of tax dollars collected – an almost unheard-of initiative.

“We will continue to look for ways to leverage our strong financial position to deploy tax dollars back into our infrastructure and improve and improve the City.”

Recently, the city administration in Ferris presented the City of Ferris Strategic Plan – “Ferris 20 by 25” – outlining the city’s mission, vision, values, and setting vision blocks through eight major goal areas according to Williams.

“The strategic plan sets an intentional road map for our City, with over 40 significant goals and initiatives to be achieved,” Willliams said.

“The ‘20 by 25’ portion of the city’s strategic plan sets 20 major initiatives to be completed by the year 2025. Goal 7 is to enhance and sustain Ferris’s infrastructure network.

“The improvements of the streets directly impacts this goal area and aligns our resources being utilized, tax dollars, to our strategic plan, which is our commitment to the citizens and what guides our work,” Williams concluded.
