FERRIS – Nate Aguinaga rushed for 149 yards and a touchdown as Ferris used a late defensive stand to hold off Farmersville.
Farmersville’s bid to tie the score in the final minute ended on a deflected fourth-down pass in the end zone. The drive reached the Ferris 3-yard line, and included an apparent touchdown called back by a holding penalty.
Earlier, Aguinaga’s 24-yard scoring pass to Brendon Winsor capped the opening drive of the second half, which covered 87 yards and 16 plays. The possession consumed 8:17 off the clock, with Winsor’s diving catch coming on a fourth-down play.
Red-zone penalties cost Farmersville (1-2) multiple scoring opportunities. Ferris (2-2) also scored a safety in the first quarter on a bad punt snap.
