The Ferris “Citizens On Patrol” (COP) program is accepting applications.
“This is the first program in Ferris of its kind,” said Ferris Chief of Police John DeLeon. “I’m truly excited to implement the program to the citizens of Ferris.
“Not only will they help the police department by being an extra set of eyes and ears, but it will give them the opportunity to see what their officers can face daily. I think with what is happening with law enforcement all over the United States today, it’s important to bridge that gap. With the Ferris COP program, I’m hoping to do just that.”
The program provides the opportunity for trained citizen volunteers to assist their police department with designated non-confrontational activities as citizen patrollers and administrative volunteers in order to increase citizen understanding and participation in police activities, enhance crime prevention, and provide additional resources to improve service to the community.
COP volunteers help patrol the city in specially marked decommissioned police cars.
Members are trained to work with the police department to act as additional “eyes and ears” to help to report criminal activity and issues requiring the attention of city resources.
