OVILLA – The City of Ovilla not only has a new public works building to be happy about, but a new public works director too.

Being shorthanded for much of the past year, a few months ago the city hired James Kuykendall to take the lead in the public works department.

According to Ovilla City Manager Pam Woodall, the new hire “hit the floor running and filled all empty and vacant funded positions within a few months, consisting of well-seasoned and knowledgeable public works crews.”

“We are very pleased James accepted the position of Director of Public Works,” said Ovilla Mayor Richard Dormier. “Since joining the city, he has filled several vacancies in public works, has reorganized the staff, and has been instrumental in heading up the work for the new public works building. We look forward to a renewed emphasis on parks, street maintenance, and water/sewer services for our citizens.”

Kuykendall has many years experience and considerable knowledge in the municipal public works sector in supervisory capacities according to Woodall. He is a 23-year retiree from the City of Cedar Hill, and was with the City of DeSoto a little over two years.  He also carries multiple certifications, and Woodall said, “emphasizes a good attitude and support to his department with a dedication to customer service.”

The public works department is over water/sewer, parks, and streets/drainage.

The new public works building will be located next to the Ovilla police station, and is expected to be ready for move-in by mid-to-late September.
