FERRIS – On July 15, at around 3 p.m., Ferris K9 Officer C. Banks made a traffic stop for speeding on the north bound lane of Interstate 45.
Banks identified the driver and passenger of the vehicle, and based on several factors had probable cause to detain and conduct a search of the car.
The car search yielded a marijuana amount that equals to a state felony charge – possessing marijuana that is equal to or greater than 4 ounces but less than 5 pounds.
The search also found trace amounts of THC wax, which is considered a Penalty Group 2 drug. According to the Texas Health and Safety Code, any trace under 1 gram is considered a state felony.
The pair were given citations for drug paraphernalia, and after getting checked for warrants were released, based on no active warrants out for either subject.
Due to the COVID-19 situation, the two were not immediately arrested. Several at large warrants are pending.
