RED OAK – At Life School Red Oak Elementary, teachers, staff, and families reconnected through a summer send-off drive-through parade on Friday, May 22.
Though the school year ended with an unexpected turn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the LSRO school spirit was strong as staff adopted the social media trend of drive-through parades to celebrate their students’ resilience.
“Being away for so long was hard on everyone and the thought of this event was that it would be a fun way to see our students again and bring closure to the school year,” expressed Joy Shepherd, LSRO Principal.
Complying to the Center of Disease Control and Prevention’s guidelines, LSRO staff maintained social distancing protocols while over 100 vehicles circulated through the parade. Teachers lined the parking lot with decorated cars, noisemakers, and smiling faces while their students showcased ‘thank you’ signs, tossed candy, and even sprayed their favorite educators with silly string.
