WAXAHACHIE – The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office has a new design on their Chevrolet Tahoes.

The new design and the new Tahoe fleet are just one more way to make sure the deputies are able to be as proactive and safety conscious as possible.

Ellis County Sheriff’s Office Captain Chris Hamilton said one main highlight with the design is the colors in the logo, which have changed.

The new colors can be seen on many of the deputy’s vehicles now. The new logo also features the Sheriff’s badge on the side of the vehicle too.

“We love our colors and the patchworks,” Captain Hamilton said.

“A lot of times it is hard to see the words Ellis County and we wanted to bring that out.

“You can tell now by looking at it that there is no doubt we are Ellis County.”

There are a total of about 40 vehicles in the fleet, not all have the new logo yet.

The vehicles with new logo are a new program this year and Hamilton said Ellis County Sheriff Chuck Edge worked alongside the county commissioners and Ellis County Judge Todd Little to make the new look a reality.

“Vehicle needs at the sheriff’s office have been great,” Captain Hamilton added. “We had a lot of vehicles with an astronomical amount of miles on them. The program we are doing now is a financing program.”

Another point to make is the new look and vehicles cost the taxpayer no money.

The commissioners and judge decided to put a down payment on each vehicle. This meant that what would normally take years to have in the fleet is available now.

“Doing this program the way we are doing it we are able to spread the cost over time and not use all that money at once,” Hamilton added.

The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office has had the Chevrolet Tahoe in their fleet since 2010 with a mix of the often-used Crown Victoria too.

Hamilton said however, these Tahoes are built to last and have proven to take the county roads well.

There are even a few vehicles in the fleet with over 300,000 miles

How fast these new Tahoes go from zero to 60, Captain Hamilton said with a smile, “Is classified information.”

Your best bet – don’t try to find out.
