WILMER – Wilmer Economic Development Corporation Executive Director John Hubbard has been looking for ways to make sure businesses in that city stay afloat during the Covid-19 virus.

Hubbard has been talking with the Texas Division of Emergency Management to help Wilmer businesses with the possibility of obtaining SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loans.

“Wilmer is resilient, and this is a good opportunity to stay engaged with our small businesses and help them during this time,” Hubbard said.

The emergency injury worksheet is for distribution to small business and private non-profit organizations (PNPs) that have or are sustaining substantial economic injury as a result of the Covid-19 virus pandemic.

This worksheet is available at www.sba.gov/disaster or on the WEDC website.

There are more than 300 small businesses in the city of Wilmer – many mom and pop companies whose lifeblood is sustained by local residents who are doing business with them.

Small businesses and PNPs must be able to demonstrate it is unable to meet obligations or pay ordinary or necessary operating expenses by completing the EIW.

When completing the form, include in the brief explanation field the economic impact is directly related to Covid-19.

In order for Texas to receive an SBA Economic Injury Disaster Declaration, affected businesses must complete the Estimated Disaster Economic Injury Worksheet certifying the business has suffered substantial economic injury as a result of Covid-19 and are in need of financial assistance.

Once Texas has received five SBA validated Estimated Disaster Economic Injury Worksheets, Texas Governor Greg Abbott will request an Economic Injury Disaster Declaration. A county will need to submit at least one valid Economic Injury Worksheet in order to be included in the declaration.

If a business in your jurisdiction is unable to prove economic injury at this time, additional counties can be added to the declaration at a later date. When the declaration is granted for the SBA EIDL program, applicants will receive information on how to apply for the loan.

The Estimated Disaster Economic Injury Worksheet should be submitted via email to the Texas Department of Emergency Management (TDEM) at TDEM-PARecovery@tdem.texas. gov.
