ELLIS COUNTY – Julissa Martinez announced her intention to run for Ellis County District Attorney, seeking the Republican nomination in the 2020 March primary.
Martinez, a mother of three, homeowner and business owner in Ellis County, has been practicing law for two decades.
She is an active member of our community and she is excited about the prospect of being Ellis County’s next District Attorney.
Martinez has substantial experience in the Ellis County/District Attorney’s Office by virtue of her employment as an Assistant District Attorney, diligently working her way up, from misdemeanor to felony prosecutions.
Martinez’s strong prosecutorial and leadership skills were also appreciated by surrounding jurisdictions.
She has represented the State of Texas as special prosecutor in Johnson County, Navarro County and Dallas County.
In fact, after leaving the Ellis County District Attorney’s Office for private practice, Martinez was designated a special prosecutor for the very office she now seeks to lead.
She believes in the rule of law and has a strong position on immigration and is a whole-hearted believer in doing it the right way.
She often cites watching her mom take the Oath of Allegiance to become an American citizen as being a defining moment that inspired her to be the best that she could be.
Martinez wants to help guard our freedoms and liberties.
She has decades of experience in law and collaborative partnerships.
She received her undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University and her graduate degree from the University of Houston Law Center. Martinez has worked on issues ranging from violent gang activity, grand jury presentations, and working hand in hand with law enforcement to secure and improve drug prosecutions.
She has been instrumental in providing Continuing Legal Education and training for attorneys across the State.
She served as President of the Ellis County Defense Lawyers Association for numerous years.
She has advocated on behalf of the State of Texas and at other times for the defense in every Ellis County courtroom.
Martinez loves and is committed to Ellis County. She and her late husband of twenty years chose to raise their family in Waxahachie.
She and her family are active parishioners of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
She invested and purchased property in downtown Waxahachie where she operates her successful legal practice.
In her spare time, she devotes her time giving back to her community. She served as a board member for many years for the nonprofit transitional housing center, Daniel’s Den. She still delivers hot meals for Meals on Wheels of Ellis and Johnson County, and is an active member of the Waxahachie Lions Club.
Martinez also worked on the Waxahachie Project and Waxahachie I.S.D.’s Long Range Planning Committee, determining and forecasting the city’s strengths and weaknesses and community and educational needs.
Currently, she serves as chair of the Caring for America Committee for the Ellis County Republican Women (E.C.R.W.).
Martinez understands the importance of this office. She even commented on the fact that, while the position is about doing right by the people in the court of law, it is also about doing right by the taxpayers to ensure fair trials and swift justice.
“My life experiences have prepared me to lead the District Attorney’s office with honor and integrity. I seek to protect our families and community and administer justice efficiently and fairly. I would appreciate your vote for justice,” said Ms. Martinez.
