WILMER – The Wilmer City Council approved to continue its Interlocal Agreements with Dallas County to provide ambulance services for 200 Greene Road, the Judge John C Cruezot Judicial Treatment Center, as well as both ambulance and fire protection services for portions of unincorporated Dallas.
Wilmer Fire Chief Mark Hamilton said the service will continue to be 24/7 coverage.
“This is a service we have provided to that area for approximately 15 years along with almost every other city in Dallas County,” said Hamilton. “That’s for both fire protection and ambulance service in unincorporated Dallas County.”
Hamilton said regarding the Greene Road services this was already in place when he took the helm of the fire department in Wilmer.
“We had already been running ambulance calls at the rehab center for years and had racked up approximately 3/4 of a million in unpaid ambulance bills,” Hamilton said.
Since that time Hamilton has negotiated a deal with the Dallas County Fire Marshall’s office to start receiving payments for EMS calls ran at the facility.
It was a good move, because the fire marshall has since increased payments from $250 a call to $420 for fire calls and anywhere from $250 to $500 a call for EMS calls.
This new pay rate began with the approval of the Interlocal Agreement at the Wilmer City Council meeting last week.
