Glenn Heights’ Milah’s School of Dance students Saria Lozada, 7, and Brisa Arellano, 18, represented the United States at the Dance Award Europe: Grand Prix Italia, bringing home 2nd and 3rd place as a country (not scored as individuals) for Lyrical Dance and Classical Ballet

The five-day event was held in Cesenatico, Italy from June 17 to 21, with 14 countries in attendance.

Milah Lucas, the owner and artistic director, said, “The girls worked hard – my youngest student, Saria, a four-year student from Midlothian, takes about 15 hours of private lessons a week with me along with her daily 6 hour lessons with her classmates.

“For her to be only 7 years old, she is very focused on her goals and what she wants for her future.”

Milah continued, “For Brisa, my nine-year student from Oak Cliff, it has been a struggle this past year getting her to take classes or private lessons because she attends Bishop Dunne in Dallas, a prestigious academic school that always has her drowned in homework/projects.

“It still didn’t stop her from keeping up with her training at home and practicing every chance she got when she was through teaching her preschool dance classes on the weekends.

“At my studio, Brisa is a part of our Student Teacher Scholarship Program. She truly is self disciplined in her art and has always put her best foot forward into becoming a professional dancer.

“She actually choreographed her contemporary piece that she took to Italy. I have no doubts that she can make it in the professional world of dance.”

This was Saria and Brisa’s first-time performing at an event this big and successfully coming out on top.
