WILMER – Every year the Best Southwest Scholarships are given to local students in each of the Best Southwest Cities, normally at the end of the school year. Wilmer was proud to congratulate Jenna Richey this year as that city’s winner.
Richey said she will be attending Mountain View Community College for the fall of 2019, to receive her Associates Degree.
“I will then continue on to the Dallas Institute of Funeral Services to be certified as a funeral embalmer/ director,” Richey said.
The scholarship will help her with providing for her classes and textbooks.
Richey is a Wilmer resident who attended Ferris High School, graduating in the class of 2019. She has lived in Wilmer four years.
“I would like to thank Best Southwest Scholarship, and of course the Mayor of Wilmer for giving me this great opportunity, in further continuing my education,” Richey concluded.
In Hutchins, Kennetra Holloway was the Best Southwest recipient winner. She attended Wilmer-Hutchins, and has lived in Hutchins 13 years.
She plans to attend the University of Houston with a major in Nursing.
She said the highlight of her essay was about her goals and aspirations and concluded by adding, “I am thankful and grateful for the assistance.”
In Ovilla, Michael Herring, who attends Red Oak High School, was the choice for the $1,000 scholarship in that city.
