WILMER – The City of Wilmer is growing and with that growth comes new opportunity.

The five-year Economic Development Director in Wilmer, David Miracle will be retiring as of July 31.

According to City Administrator Dr. John Hubbard, Miracle will stay on as a consultant until August.

The city secretary’s last day was June 20 and the city is eager to replace that position soon too.In the search for a new Economic Development Director, Hubbard said a selection committee composed of both ED board presidents, Mayor Pro Tem Candy Madrigal, David Miracle, Assistant City Manager Missie Schwab and himself will make a recommendation to both Type A and Type B boards.

“The boards will make a recommendation to council for final approval,” Hubbard explained.

“A finalist has been selected. We expect the boards to make a recommendation to council at their joint board meeting on July 16, and council will then consider the appointment at their next regular meeting.”

The combined budget for the WEDC/WCDC is almost $1.5 million.

Hubbard said the city hopes to have the new economic development director in place by August.

The city is working with City Management Essentials to provide interim city secretary services while searching for that long-term solution.

Hubbard said the city is advertising for the position on the Texas Municipal League and Texas Municipal Clerks Association websites. A committee will review the applicants and bring a recommendation to city council for approval.

“We are allowing at least a four-month search process for the city secretary position,” Hubbard said.

“These are exciting times for the City of Wilmer,” Hubbard continued.

“I believe Wilmer is on the cusp of even more economic development opportunities that will benefit the city in the next few years.”

Wilmer Mayor Emmanuel Wealthy-Williams agreed.

“As a city we thank Mr. David Miracle for his time in serving Wilmer Texas. As a city we wish him the best as he transitions to retirement. Wilmer is poised for growth and greatness.”
