HUTCHINS – The City of Hutchins broke ground Monday morning on a new Public Safety building that is poised to put the city on the map regarding state of the art.

Costing the city about $6.5 million for the 18,200-square-feet building, the new facility will house both the police and fire departments as well as code enforcement and animal control.

Hutchins Mayor Mario Vasquez said at the groundbreaking, “It all starts with a vision.”

At Monday’s groundbreaking, city officials said they were also burying a Bible in a time capsule to go under the foundation.

The Bible is a reminder to all those who have served the city in the past.

Hutchins Police Chief Steve Perry said, “The Bible is being buried in a time capsule as prayer protection.”

The new facility’s groundbreaking comes in a year that marks the 50th anniversary of the Hutchins Police Department.

The Public Safety building is located at the corner of Palestine Street and Denton Street, and is anticipated to be complete in March 2020.

This new facility will bring the police and fire department together under one roof for the first time.
