RED OAK – As a series of storms rolled through the Ellis County area over the weekend, some residents in cities like Red Oak awoke Sunday morning to no electricity.

The first storms came through around 4 a.m. and electricity went down for residents in Red Oak until around 11 a.m.

A representative for Oncor said more than 1,300 customers lost power over the weekend in Ellis County. By Monday only about 30 customers remained without power.

“Crews are working to restore those areas as quickly and safely as possible,” the Oncor representative said Monday afternoon.

“We anticipate restoration for the remaining homes and businesses that are able to accept power to be completed later tonight.”

It was noted about 65-percent of the customers affected over the weekend did have their electricity restored by midnight Sunday night.

“Any remaining outages sometimes can be among the most complex and time consuming that require more extensive reconstruction of distribution of equipment or rebuilding of infrastructure, replacement of utility poles and transformer,” the representative explained.

“We always want our customers to stay safe. A reminder if you see a downed power line always call 911 and stay clear of the area and we are always here to report an outage.”

Sunday’s storms did not match the storms that came through the weekend before that were especially heavy in the city of Ferris.

This past weekend no injuries were reported.

The storms hitting North Texas Sunday were storms reportedly developed right over North Texas.

The storms wreaked havoc on weekend travel bringing about 1.76 inches of rain to the Dallas Love Field area causing 170 flight delays and around 39 canceled flights.

At DFW Airport there were ground stops with 730 flight delays and 550 canceled flights according to FlightAware.

By nightfall at the end of the weekend about 2.42 inches of rain had fallen at DFW Airport, a record high according to reports.
