FERRIS – With the exception of City Councilwoman Sherie Chapman getting upset with City Manager Bill Jordan about resident’s water being shut off without notice, the special-called meeting on Monday, Feb. 25 was unusually quiet and orderly.

“I want to know why you (Jordan) didn’t return my call (regarding citizens who were affected by their water being turned off for three days),” said Chapman.

“I want an answer,” insisted Chapman.

Jordan said he would be happy to answer her at a later date, and others told Chapman the agenda item before them was about awarding the lowest bid to install a water blending system to comply with water quality regulations, not water shutoffs.

“I beg to differ,” said Chapman, explaining it was about city water, and she wanted assurances this type of situation wouldn’t happen again.

Jordan said this would not affect the water pressure.

In the end, the item passed unanimously after Councilman Rick Barrett advised because the amount estimated in the budget was inflated, that in the future, estimates should be solicited from contractors instead of engineers.

In other action, the new Senior Center Director was introduced to the council. And, the council approved a new police department manual submitted by Chief Eddie Salazar, after a minor change was noted.
