FERRIS – Hazel Ingram Elementary School has received a $4,000 Lowe’s Toolbox for Education Grant for their Outdoor Learning Center.

Lowe’s grant application was based on the goal of improving hands-on learning with real world application in Science at Hazel Ingram Elementary School.

In this Outdoor Learning Center, students will experience nature by feeding birds and butterflies and hopefully see the butterfly life cycle firsthand.

They will check the weather each day, along with rain gauge after it rains, and gets their hands dirty planting new seeds each season.

The ultimate goal is they will have produce to harvest from their own plantings that can be shared and used in their own cafeteria.

“We expect that this project will be started in early spring 2019 with our first full harvest to be in the spring of 2020.

“Our school and community will greatly benefit from this grant and we look forward to witnessing the wonderful experiences our students at Hazel Ingram Elementary will have in our new Outdoor Learning Center. We wish to thank our friends at Lowe’s for generously supporting this important project,” said Mrs. Griffith, Hazel Ingram Principal.

All K-12 public schools in the United States are eligible for the Toolbox for Education program.
