GLENN HEIGHTS – The runoff election in Glenn Heights for a new mayor will be Feb. 26 with early voting starting next week.

Five candidates are running for the unexpired mayor’s seat with former Mayor Leon Tate, former City Councilmember Harry Garrett, Mayor Pro Tem Tony Bradley, Sheena Morgan and Robert Rodriguez.

Harry Garrett had the most votes and will be one of the two running in the runoff election, Garret had 46.97-pecent of the vote after Dallas and Ellis county votes were counted in unofficial results.

The second candidate is not known, because both Tate and Morgan came with just a two-vote difference.

Morgan had 74 votes or 16.63-percent of the vote and Tate had 72 votes or 16.18-percent of the vote.

The outcome will determine the second running mate when it is determined if four provisional votes will be counted. The four votes could determine if it is Morgan or Tate in the runoff election depending on if any of these votes add to Tate’s final vote to tie him with Morgan.

Votes will be canvassed to announce official results Thursday at 6 p.m.

The runoff election will likely be ordered at the next city council meeting Tuesday, Feb. 5.

The mayoral seat became open when former Mayor Tate was removed in a 5–1 vote of the city council members in the fall.
